Respectfully, if the Christian is to relate to anyone in the book of Ruth, it is not the person of Ruth but the person of Naomi that puts a mirror in our face. Ruth is far more God’s provision to Naomi than Boaz is to Ruth. Ruth is gleaning prior to Boaz’ arrival. She takes initiative throughout the book, even demanding that Boaz fulfill to her what he has lazily passed off for God to do (2:12 vs. 3:9). Also, 2:11 is an allusion to Abraham. Ruth being a Moabite, of the most hated people in the Old Testament, who is seen as the most righteous person in the narrative gives the book an extremely subversive edge in the context that it was written. Forcing Boaz into the messianic role does no justice to the text.
My apologies. I thought that this comment was going to be a direct message. My aim is not to cause any dissension, but to interpret God’s word with integrity. I am grateful for all the wonderful things God is doing through this ministry and pray that he blesses you far beyond your ability to contain.
