There are so many amazing verses in Philippians that speak to us today. True this can be said of the entire Bible, yet this book is special in many ways to me. Thank you for your love of God and sharing His Word!

I am a covenant member of The Village Church where Matt Chandler preaches weekly among 3 campuses. It’s so interesting to me how well he grasps how to speak the truth in love. One week he called the congregation leeches, a wayward people, but with a tact that ultimately advocates repentance, throwing ourselves before the cross of Christ. It’s tough to hear, but very beneficial.

I’ll just leave one comment and let God work out the winners. The thing I like the best about Matt Chandler is his passion for Jesus Christ. It is so refreshing to see someone who cares little what men think, preach like they really believe the bible and are consumed with HIM.

For Bible study I usually read in the morning and at night time. Lately though it doesn’t seem right for me to read God’s word just to check it off my list if things to do. It has been like that for a couple of weeks. I pray things change on that matter. I truly want to study the scriptures even if my family thinks I’m weird or hates me.

    William and Laura Squier says:

The Lord used Tommy Nelson’s ministry to intervene in a mighty way in our lives. After re-committing our lives through his challenge, we have used many of his materials to teach our own family as well as in our church. We have given away probably close to 50 SOS series over the past 10 years to people who have also been helped through his ministry. We are currently awaiting some teaching CDs from his church’s site. My son is an officer in the Army and he often listens to Tommy online.
Thank you for your years of faithfully and practically communicating the word of God…..Thank you for being a real man and yet a godly man. The men of this generation need an example like that!

Also thanks to the Hub for expanding and continuing the ministry that Tommy began.

Pastor Mark Driscoll was recommended to me by a Christian friend that is my accountability partner. There are two series that I have enjoyed the most: Redeeming Ruth and The Peasant Princess. Several years ago, I attended Pastor Tommy Nelson’s Song of Solomon lecture at Calvary Chapel in Fort Lauderdale. These teachings have helped me grow deeper in love with Jesus. I’m still praying for a Godly husband, but I know that no matter what I have the love of Christ to sustain me. Both pastors delivered their message with such clarity. Thank you!

  72. 72
    Rebecca Smith says:

I really like how Matt Chandelor and Tommy Nelson don’t ambilish the Bible. With all the pastors that bend the Word to fit their “gospel” it’s refreshing to be under the leadership of Tommy Nelson. My husband and I have grown substantially since we began attending DBC!! Oh And the Love Song series is amazing!!

  73. 73

Mark Driscoll and Matt Chandler have rocketed to the top of my playlists. They are blessed by God with the ability to rightly divide and proclaim the truth of Jesus and His Word.

  78. 78
    Stephen says:

I like and appreciate what y’all are doing to share the Word. It is becoming increasingly difficult these days to hear the Truth over all of the noise. I enjoy Mark’s straight-up style and his fervor for Biblical truth. I can see his passion.

One of the best tools that I use for learning the word is podcasts. I have a job where I have the time to listen to podcasts and I currently subscribe to seven or eight different podcasts. Would you guys ever consider doing a podcast? Or maybe you already produce one? If it’s the latter, I was not able to find it on the website.

    Keep up the good work!!

  79. 79

I have been a pastor for over 20 years and discovered Tommy Nelson’s series on Song of Solomon only in the past 7 years at the advice of my brother who is also a pastor. Thanks Ken

    Lisa Smith says:

I fell in love with Tommy Nelson 13 years ago when I heard his song of solomon series on tape when I was a single woman. It helped me understand so much. Then, my fiancee and I got the chance to see him in person at Two Rivers Church in Nashville, TN. It set a standard for the beginning of our marriage. My brother and sister in law struggled during a period of time in their marriage and we invited them to our house for supper over a couple of weeks and took care of their little girls while they watched the videos. Both of them decided to stay together and they have been active in ministry and fell in love with each other all over again. Tommy was such a blessing. Blessings to this ministry.

It is truly a blessing to my ears to hears God’s word being delivered by those He has chosen. I am learning God’s word thru Sunday shcool and Bible study at my church. However, there was a time when i didn’t know God. But have come to realize that he was always there. So I thank you from the bottom of my heart for stepping up to your calling. Stay bless.

    Tina Wren says:

My family and I have recently joined The Village Church. I am so thankful for men like Matt Chandler, Mark Driscoll and John Piper who preach the GOSPEL without watering it down. I grew up in churches filled with rules and regulations that didn’t get to the meat of the bible. In short time that we’ve been attending, I’ve learned more about the truth of the bible than I did in several years of church attendance.

  92. 92
    Ilene Vernon says:

Was blessed to take students to Student Life Mission Camp this summer where Matt Chandler spoke. It was wonderful to hear “missional messages” at missions camp. We were blessed by the Word delivered through Matt, co-pastor, and worship of Andy Melvin Band.

  93. 93

The clear and real communication of the positive headlines of Jesus is powerful, effective and transforms lives for eternity. I’ll never forget an early talk given by Driscoll about what ever happened to preaching. Instead, we get people on couches in sweaters sharing. Preach, I say…Preach! Peace out.

  94. 94
    Ben says:

I have personally greatly benefitted from both Matt Chandler and Driscoll’s preaching. I’d also love to get my hands on this series! My church is looking for a good group study and this would be perfect. Money is tight for us these days so winning this would rock.

Truth is a difficult thing to come by in today’s world. The world is trying to market the notion that “there is no truth, and that’s the absolute truth” or “what you believe is your truth and what I believe is my truth”. God’s word is our weapon against these worldly teachings. There is only one truth and it is absolute!

Home address: 189 Golden Pointe Road, Spencer, TN 38585. (Wasn’t sure if you wanted email or home mail)
I have listened to many of Matt Chandler sermons. Actually I started a study in Luke and used his sermons as a reference/study help. I’m doing the same thing for Ecclesiastes. Matt is very insightful and has a heart for people who don’t know God or people who are searching for truth. I’ve also used Tommy Nelson in the study of Ecclesiastes. I used it this morning as a matter of fact.

If you are a parent, listen to Mark Driscoll’s messages on Proverbs for parents. They are jam packed with instruction and wisdom, and they are very encouraging.

  118. 118

Ooh! What a great give away. I am looking forward to engaing with this teaching on Philipians. The Lord has recently lead me to Philipians 3:10 and I have found myself struggling/praying through that verse. I love the verse until you reach the part about suffering and that part I am not all that eager about. Praying that God would reveal His glory so much that the suffering is pure joy so that I can be further united with my Savior.

  119. 119

    Erin Higgs says:

Studying God’s word is my hope and my life. The days when I am away from it I recognize the evil I have within me. My heart is so very unclean. I have been learning about laying down my life recently that I may take up His cross. It has been difficult learning this because I am such a sinful person and very selfish. But as I make my way along this journey I learn that it is a daily seeking of the Lord through prayer and scripture and that I must be coated with His word to prepare me for what will come.

Oh, yeah, and speaking of Philippians, our BIble Study Group is going through it right now! That some providence; maybe I”m meant to win this thing. ;) Or perhaps a little plug for our church plant, Veritas Community Church in Campbell, California. We are a church plant our of West Hills Community Church in Morgan Hill. It is not the usual church gathering although we are very usual in a historic sort of way: sound, passionate, exposition preaching; loving fellowship and discipleship; growing in faith and love; encouraging, exhorting, instructing and edifying, desiring to become more like Christ, and glorify Him. If you are in the area, visit us.

Tommy Nelson’s SOS was one of the first studies I attended as a new Christian several years ago. As a single adult, it helped shape my new life in Christ. I’ve always wanted to thank him for allowing God to work through him and teach so many…including me! Thank you!!! :)

  134. 134
    emily says:

So thankful for this ministry. God has used these Godly men to bring Him MUCH glory. I listened to the Tommy Nelson SOS series back in 2000 when I was 19 and engaged to a guy. It opened my eyes to God’s design for marriage and showed me MANY red flags in the relationship that I was in. God ended this relationship and I’m SO thankful! Just last weekend I went to the Mark Driscoll SOS conference and am thankful for his boldness and passion for Jesus. Thanks for all you do!

  139. 139
    Jason Elliott says:

I’m a young pastor from Virginia. Over the last 3 years, God has used men like Matt Chandler and Mark Driscoll to encourage and equip me. I’ve learned the value of listening to guys like Matt, Mark, John Piper and Tim Keller…men who love Jesus, preach the Word, and seek to make disciples of all nations. Listening to their podcasts and reading their books have been a gift of grace over the past three years.

  140. 140
    Derek says:

I love listening to Matt Chandler preach. He makes the text clear and helpful.

  150. 150
    Josh says:

no, seriously, i got nothing else…

  151. 151
    Samuel Schabel says:

Something Matt once said that was funny in a way, but also very convicting and encouraging:

“Let your wife worry about your clothes. Buy books and study. We don’t need any more well-dressed, hip, funny, heretics. Who cares how you say it if what you’re saying is wrong?” – Matt Chandler

  152. 152
    Ricky Miller says:

  157. 157
    Julie says:

Matt seems to strive daily to give all glory to God.

  158. 158
    Greg Wilson says:

Matt Chandler is an anointed (I don’t use that term lightly) pastor/teacher. It is a privilege to attend The Village Church – not just because I get to sit under his teaching, but because he and the elders of The Village have intentionally created a culture of Biblical community there that is unlike any I’ve experienced. I’m psyched about the Philippians resource, because it means that more people will be able to access his teaching.

  159. 159
    Ivy says:

Awesome series! Thanks for committing to the speaking truth.

  160. 160
    Phil Hall says:

Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints. (Philemon 1:7) Keep speaking the truth. Speak it boldy, graciously and in meekness.

  168. 168
    Gabe Skypala says:

Even though we like to hear Matt speak “hard” truths to us are we just letting our ears be tickled by them or does that truth penetrate and by the Holy Spirit change us? Don’t fool yourself (James1:22) thinking that because you hear a lot of great teaching that it means anything. I am speaking to myself.

  169. 169
    Matt Heerema says:

Matt Chandler is one of a few living heroes of mine. I’ve been told you’re supposed to have dead heroes, which is probably true, but he is a great living example.

  170. 170
    Kevin says:

    Matt is an awesome teacher.

  171. 171

Doug Hudson… I love it when I see the Lord leading my brother. I am for you! Thanks for the Daniel stuff. It helped me as I taught through the series.

  172. 172
    Matt Heerema says:

And ya, leaving a comment to enter in a contest… seems a little shallow. But, there it is.

  173. 173
    JC says:

Would love the opportunity to have a copy of Matt’s Philippians study. I’ve been blessed by his preaching ministry. The Flip Mino would be cool too :)

    Thanks for doing this giveaway!

  174. 174
    Samuel Schabel says:

A few “insights” from a blog about one of the Resurgence Conferences that made me smile:

“Piper doesn’t have a TV and wouldn’t plug it in even if Mark bought him one.
Mark was thankful that Piper gives him and Chandler some slack on the rope, and Piper just doesn’t want them to hang themselves.
Piper makes fun of the music at Mars Hill.
Chandler has a photo of Piper on his fridge.
Piper thinks that Doug Wilson has a bunch of dumb guys around him (cue the Driscoll and Chandler fist pump).
We are still in the dark how much Piper can bench press.”

  175. 175
    Jared S. says:

My wife and I went to a Tommy Nelson conference with some friends while we were still dating in college. We got to hear from him again at a college ministry conference Greensboro, NC. If hearing from Tommy twice before marriage isn’t “starting on the right foot”, I don’t know what is! It was a great way to start our dating relationship and our marriage is still benefiting years later from Tommy’s insight. Thanks for serving!

  179. 179
    Nathan McCartney says:

Philippians is a wonderful book. I’d love to hear this study (sounds wonderful). Can’t wait for it to be released.

    Hey guys!
Just want to say that I appreciate what you’re doing and I look forwards to working with you guys in the future. I have really enjoyed Matt’s preaching style and his unwavering example of preaching the real Gospel of Christ. We need more men like him in this harvest. Driscoll too!

  183. 183
    Adam Pugh says:

I was introduced to Matt Chandler recently and have not been able to get enough of his Bible preaching. I connect the most with his background, being raised in evangelical churches focused on thematic studies instead of reading through books of the Bible. I am thankful that he preaches the cross of Christ endlessly.

  184. 184
    Janie says:

Listen to Chandler’s podcasts all the time. Definitely a blessing to me. Driscoll’s series on Spiritual Warfare and Song of Solomon are just really awesome. I recommend them all the time. Sad I’m missing the Catalyst conference, but looking forward to hearing all about it and praying God works in a mighty way!

  185. 185
    Danny Burch says:

It never ceases to amaze me the different works of the Apostle Paul and I love Philippians and how Paul encourages and invites them to hold fast to their teachings and affection for Christ

  186. 186
    Shawn says:

    This looks great!

  187. 187
    Richi says:

Matt Chandler is a great speaker because he keeps everyone’s attentions but also ties back whatever we’re laughing at to a relevant concept in the Word.

  188. 188
    Curt says:

Philippians is one of my favorite books – joy in the midst of facing hard times. I’ve heard both Tommy Nelson and Mark Driscoll speak. These guys are very gifted communicators who are not ashamed to preach the truth. I’ve never heard Matt Chandler, but I look forward to seeing if he is up to snuff with Tommy and Mark.

  189. 189
    Danny Burch says:

As far as the truth goes guy, we can agree the only truth is God’s truth revealed in the person and work of Jesus Christ. To live is Christ and to die is gain. Something I honestly have difficulty understanding. I know we can understand the point behind that but I don’t think we can truly grasp that unless we are faced with our own mortality for the cause of the Gospel.

  190. 190
    Richi says:

I was planning on going to Catalyst this year but found out that I had 4 major midterms on the days on/immediately after the conference…Wish it was in the summer or winter =/

I thank God for Matt. (By the way Matt, if you read this, I also thank God for those early morning studies in your living room in Abilene. Ever since then, I’ve made a point of meeting weekly, one-on-one with another man of God and have been blessed incredibly by the discipline.)

  194. 194
    Eddy says:

Yeah, it’d be really awesome to win this. We’re preaching through Philippians, so it’d be cool to get his perspective on things.

  195. 195
    Richi says:

Philippians 1.6 [NASB] | For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

  196. 196
    Robert says:

I’m a HUGE fan of Tommy Nelson and Driscoll – preach it!

  197. 197
    Danny Burch says:

As far as how I go about learning and studying.. I am usually studying along with Chandler. I have been going back and studying through the book of Luke along with his sermons.. I think it is important to get in the Word and not just hear it and take Matt for what he says. Not that He is saying anything wrong!! Ha ha. But to be doers of the Word and not just hearers. I look forward to being able to go through Philippians with him and to bring others along with me.

  198. 198
    tj says:

Matt is a great man of God. I’ve been following his preaching since my days at Grace in Abilene back in 2000…I cant wait to use this Phpians series with the young adults I work with! Keep em coming, Matt!

  199. 199
    Mark Rico says:

I first got to know Mark Driscoll through his podcast, and youtube “related” videos led me to Matt Chandler. Both of those pastors have been a vital part of my daily routine, as I am able to listen to podcasts while working. That’s one of the ways that God has given me to keep His word before my eyes, and bring me conviction and comfort – I get to listen to His word preached for free, and it’s a huge blessing.

And i used Nelson’s Song of Solomon series to teach my Youth Group. It took me over 15 sessions! And the students LOVED it, but more importantly God used it in powerful ways.

  202. 202

I flipped when I heard Chandler’s Ecclesiastes series.

  203. 203

  208. 208

Last comment – funny, but good stat about the Song of Solomon series I taught on using Nelson’s material – over 12 relationships broke up as a result of Godly teaching on dating!! I praised God for everyone b/c they broke up for the right reasons!! Guard those future marriages!

  209. 209
    Richi says:

Phil 1.12-14 [NASB] Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel, so that my imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the whole praetorian guard and to everyone else, and that most of the brethren, trusting in the Lord because of my imprisonment, have far more courage to speak the word of God without fear.

  212. 212
    Justin says:

Been sitting under Driscoll’s preaching for 11 years and it never gets old. Sometimes I can take it for granted, but lately I’ve been just amazed at the power of the Holy Spirit working through him to illuminate scripture. He is killing it so far w/ our new Luke series. Knocking it out of the park. Speaking of Luke…Chandler on Good Samaritan, Rich Young Ruler, Shrewd Manager…Some of My favorite sermons! Preach it Chandler!

  213. 213
    Christy says:

These guys are the real deal!

  221. 221
    Alex says:

I’ve been listening to Matt Chandler religiously for some time now. He is a strong proclaimer of the Word of God and he has really helped me delve deeper into my own spiritual life. I love that he uses his church as a springboard to get people involved with Christian community and motivates them into their own Bibles. May God bless us all.

    Autumn Beck says:

Tommy Nelson is the only reason I miss living in the city! .. oh and family too ;) His expository teaching set a new standard for us.

  232. 232
    Danny Burch says:

I really feel that this is what Paul preaches against out of Galatians. – you have turned away and grasped a different gospel which is really no gospel at all -

  233. 233
    Jeff says:

I can’t wait to hear Matt speak at Catalyst this week! He packed a wallop in the 15 or 20 minutes he spoke last year. This year I hope they turn the clocks off and let him communicate with the Spirit would have Him say! It’s great to see more leaders like Chandler emerging who aren’t afraid to stand up for the gospel, but do it in a way that shows grace and mercy to the lost and conviction to the saved!

  234. 234

Last one: I flipped when I heard Chandler’s Two Wills sermon.

(I used Flip in every comment – does that help my chances?)

  235. 235
    Richi says:

Phil 2.1-4 [NASB] | If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Phil 2.1-4 [The Message] | If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.

i was predestined to win haha

  237. 237

Im in Johannesburg, South Africa and sat up to watch Chandler in the one vodcast on the hub. The internet has made it possible for amazing growth in good christian material and im s listening to the usual suspects (Chandler, Driscoll & Piper) every week

  238. 238

I would really love to learn more about Philippians. Glad someone is doing this!

  240. 240
    Matt says:

Chandler’s teaching and the rapid growth at The Village just shows that people want truth. I love Chandler’s ability to bring it, and he doesn’t just talk in abstracts but confronts the idolatry and sin in our lives and calls us to repentance. Its great stuff… Wish I was going to be at Catalyst.

  241. 241
    Angela says:

There is no need to declare a tree by its name. It only needs to grow up gradually, to bloom, and to bear fruit; spontaneously men will recognize what kind of tree it is.

  242. 242
    Drian says:

Wow I really really could use this!!! I was looking at getting it a couple weeks ago actually but couldn’t.

  243. 243
    Drian says:

I just started leading a Bible study on my campus; with the only Christian fellowship on campus. Prayed about which book to dig into and it was phillipians. Alrdy did first part of chapter 1. So this would help tremendously

  244. 244
    Richi says:

Phil 2.14-16 [NASB] | Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, CHILDREN OF GOD without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like STARS IN THE UNIVERSE as you hold out the WORD OF LIFE—in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.

Phil 2.14-16 [The Message] | Do everything readily and cheerfully—no bickering, no second-guessing allowed! Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Carry the light-giving Message into the night so I’ll have good cause to be proud of you on the day that Christ returns. You’ll be living proof that I didn’t go to all this work for nothing.

  245. 245
    Drian says:

I’m also a multimedia production major so the Flip would be pretty perfect.

  247. 247
    Adam Williams says:

Matt Chandler is a lo ver of Jesus and a lover of people. What amazes me is that (on his twitter account) he is ALWAYS talking about two things, Church and his family. Talk about a man who is changing the tide of America! And he’s in Texas!!!

  248. 248
    Ryan says:

Last time I had a Sunday off, my wife and I went to hear Chandler at the Village. Many of my attitudes toward church in the postmodern era were changed by visiting the church. Speaking truth in love and not trying to impress with anything other than the gospel. Good stuff.

  249. 249
    Ryan says:

And I’m writing a paper on Driscoll’s discussion of sin, humanity, and the cross compared to popular voices in the emergent church. Interesting comparison. Hub, thanks for making these speakers of Biblical truth available in this way.

  250. 250
    Drian says:

So finally, my hope’s not in winning a contest or not, but have my faith in God’s grace, praying that I’d win, I would so appreciate it. Thanks

  251. 251
    Matt says:

Love Chandler and Driscoll. Here’s to more of both from SOS.

The Village Church, the church which Matt Chandler pastors, is like my virtual church. I listen to their podcasts on my way to/from work and as a result has helped me learn so much. But I have found it’s a great way to start and end my day too.

    Richi says:

oops; corrections to 9.10a & 9.15a comments: I wrote ‘NASB’ but they were actually NIV
Here are the NASB versions of those passages (cuz I’m sure you all are so eager to read all my comments):

Phil 2.1-4 [NASB] Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Phil 2.14-16 [NASB] | Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a (AH)crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.

*One reason I love the NASB translation is because it is the most accurate word-for-word English translation out there–so there’s my reason for this post=)

    Richi says:

Phil 3.7-11 [NASB] | But whatever things were GAIN to me, those things I have counted as LOSS for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count ALL things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of KNOWING Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain CHRIST, and may be FOUND in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through FAITH in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being CONFORMED to His death; in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Romans 12.2 [NASB] And do not be CONFORMED to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

[additional verse regarding conformity; don't be conformed to the world, be conformed to His death]

The Philippians study is outstanding. It simulates a sermon and immediately going to a small group to discuss what you just heard – something that we don’t get at church. The questions In the guide drive at the heart of the matter. I highly recommend the study.

  285. 285
    Richi says:

Phil 3.18-21 [NASB] | For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things. For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.

Phil 17-21 [The Message] | Stick with me, friends. Keep track of those you see running this same course, headed for this same goal. There are many out there taking other paths, choosing other goals, and trying to get you to go along with them. I’ve warned you of them many times; sadly, I’m having to do it again. All they want is easy street. They hate Christ’s Cross. But easy street is a dead-end street. Those who live there make their bellies their gods; belches are their praise; all they can think of is their appetites. But there’s far more to life for us. We’re citizens of high heaven! We’re waiting the arrival of the Savior, the Master, Jesus Christ, who will transform our earthy bodies into glorious bodies like his own. He’ll make us beautiful and whole with the same powerful skill by which he is putting everything as it should be, under and around him.

  286. 286

Phil 4.7+8 [NASB] And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Cody says:

I seriously wonder what Mark Driscoll’s necklace collection looks like.

  304. 304
    Matt says:

Mark Driscoll and Matt Chandler are leaders who God is using to reach a new generation of people. They glorify God by holding to the truths that the Christian faith has upheld for the past 2000 years, not the past 15. I love it. Soli Deo Gloria!

  309. 309
    Richi says:

Many times I’ll listen to music to find some direction to the Word of God…If I feel like the Holy Spirit is leading me to a particular song, I’ll listen to it and find parallel/relevant passages to the whole song, the chorus, or even just a line from the song. I do that a lot of times, especially at school or the city, where it could be tough to focus with all the noise/madness around me.

  310. 310
    Eric says:

    I like Mark Driscoll’s preaching.

  311. 311
    Eric says:

I like Matt Chandler’s preaching. And he has a cool voice.

  312. 312

First heard Chandler when a friend said he had found maybe the best preacher he’d heard. I was like, yeah, whatever. But then I listened and kept listening and now I’ve listened to everything. Matt is used by God in a crazy amazing way. Thanks for this study.

    Benjamin says:

Matt Chandler is the flippin man!

  316. 316

So people who have nothing to do but post comments all day are most likely to win? Nice.

Seriously though, I love Pastors Mark and Matt, and their teaching is greatly used to continually point me back to the cross. In particular I like the way they’re able to speak to their respective cultures really well – Matt to the dechurched and Mark to the unchurched, because in my context (Ault, Colorado), we have growing numbers of *both* types.

  317. 317
    Ryan says:

I would like to go to one of those conferences. It would be nice to hear more pastors like Matt that preach truth and not just to tickle the ears of the believers.

  318. 318
    Tom J says:

First heard Chandler speak last year at Desiring God and I have been a huge fan ever since. This series will be a great resource.

  319. 319
    taylor mokris says:

I take to heart Matt’s “Tools…not Rules” principle when studying God’s word. It’s about “when” and “how” to me. Answering that question and truly submitting to what God is communicating to us daily in His word, not looking at it as some plan for your life. It’s not going to answer every question I have, but will show me the redemptive power of Christ.

  320. 320
    Willie Hutson says:

I’m impressed with how Doug and the Hub has focused on speakers such as Matt, Tommy and Mark. These guys have proven to speak solid Biblical truth. They are more concerned with the power of God than the wisdom of men.

  321. 321
    John clemmons says:

I really love how Mark Driscoll and Matt Chandler are so capable and gifted in their ability to convey God’s word in a way that is meaningful and impacting to all those that choose to listen.

  322. 322
    Nick says:

    Gotta love Chanandler Bong.

  323. 323
    Jenny says:

Yesterday I was doing a little research on the past and current hip hop culture and I read about how so many twisted ideals have infiltrated the hip hop movement. This comment may seem irrelevant to this post but it got me thinking more about truth. How as Christians we have compromised the truth at times for relevance sake. I don’t just want to be relevant, I want receive direction revelation from God, backed up by HIS word. Thanks for presenting truth.

  324. 324
    Benjamin says:

I go to the Village Church on the weekends sometimes and I love the worshipful atmosphere there. Bleecker does a rockin awesome job with the music and then Chandler comes out and slaps you upside the face with an amazing truth from God’s Word

  325. 325
    Tom J says:

Chandler tweeted about this giveaway and that’s how I knew about it. I hope I win. I would love to show this series to my college group

  326. 326
    Benjamin says:

Then there’s Driscoll… I dunno where to even start! Driscoll has definitely shaped and impacted my life with his teaching. I love how he takes the deepest doctrine and then brings it out to me and tells me how to apply it to my life in the simplest of terms.

  327. 327

  329. 329
    Amy H says:

    pick me!

haha (repetition is the key to understanding) :)

  330. 330
    Tom J says:

I just read the comments above about, ‘We want to hear your comments and feedback about truth and how you go about learning God’s word’ so I’ll tell you. I learn the word in a few different ways. The most effective way is through reading, nothing flashy here, just simple reading. The more times I read it, the better I learn it. Another way is through memorizing portions of it. This will reinforce things I’ve already learned. I also learn it through hearing it taught. I subscribe to both Piper and Chandler, and listening to them will always teach me new insights. The final way would be through reading commentaries. A good commentary is also handy to have around.

  331. 331
    Kevin B. says:

Moving from the north to take a pastorate in Texas I have found Matt Chandlers cultural insites very helpful in adjusting to the new place. His teachings have helped me to see the historical challenges that come with spiritual growth in the south!

  332. 332
    Ron says:

    Phil. is a great book…

  333. 333
    Amy says:

My husband has recently began listening to Matt and he loves his on-the-edge humor.

  334. 334
    Lynne says:

Something I love about Matt Chandler is he seems so real! And that makes him easier to relate to

  335. 335

Three things about Driscoll and Chandler I am encouraged by:

    1) They are unashamedly faithful to the Gospel
    2) They have a burning passion to train, raise up, and release young men
    3) Their hearts are rend for the lost

  336. 336

Looking forward to hearing Chandler at Catalyst.

  337. 337
    Kristal Yancie says:

My husband and I were given the Song of Solomon Series by Tommy Nelson as a wedding gift. By far, one of the best gifts we were given. How wonderful is it that the Lord allows us to share with others the True Gift in Christ Jesus!

  338. 338
    joey says:

good stuff! all three of these guys are great teachers and you can tell they are passionate for the gospel

  339. 339
    Weston Littrell says:

From what I have heard through his own illustrations and the stories of others, I have been encouraged by Matt Chandler’s commitment to his family and his passionate love for them, his commitment to grow in Christ through personal devotion to Him and through repentance, and his real love and care for those close to him. That, to me, speaks volumes more than his sermons (though those have been immensely helpful to me, too). All evidence of God’s grace… to Him be the glory!

  340. 340
    Alan says:

I just finished reading phil. and I am thinking of going through it again in a small group.

  341. 341
    Chris says:

I’ve listened to Chandler’s stuff since The Resurgence conference in 08 in Seattle…. pretty sure I’ve listened to just about everything the guy has said. All the more reason I’d love this study!

  342. 342
    Cindy says:

Keep up the good work and stand firm in the Truth!

  343. 343
    Alan says:

    Alan says:

Josh, how many times did you write in?

  345. 345
    Stacy says:

Chandler has a way of getting to the core of Biblical truths in a relevant and practical way like no other. I can’t wait to hear each new message by him.

  346. 346
    David says:

Catalyst has given me some useful tools in my everyday walk and these are some of the best guys I know who can really speak to my heart.

  347. 347
    Ben Mordecai says:

Yes. My fiance and I are reading through Philippians! Matt Chandler is the junk!

  350. 350
    Andrea says:

Great contest! Matt Chandler is awesome and I’ve been wanting to hear this Philippians series!

  351. 351
    Ben Mordecai says:

Another excellent Philippians related resource is John Piper’s candidating sermon on Philippians 1.

    http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/Sermons/ByScripture/34/1823_John_Pipers_Candidating_Sermon_at_Bethlehem_Baptist/

  352. 352
    Darren says:

Our home group is using the Philippians study right now. It is absolutely fabulous. The thing so often missing after you hear a sermon is taking the time to process and share with others what you learned and what challenged you. This study accomplishes just that. The questions posed by Matt on video and the study guide make for great conversation and press for the painful but necessary process of self examination. If you go through this study and pursue the Lord and deal honestly with yourself, you can’t help but be challenged by what you hear, humbled by who you are and are not, and blown up by the fact that our glorious Savior came and saved us in our helplessness and wickedness.

  353. 353
    tom says:

Despite the Flip’in for Philippians title, the bible study sounds great.

  354. 354
    Kim says:

Matt Chandler has been instrumental in the Holy Spirit tearing down my bitterness issues with the Bible Belt (where I live), and Philippians is the book that the Lord really spoke to me at my conversion. This is great.

  355. 355
    Matt Sanders says:

I really appreciate Matt Chandler for his ability to speak heart splitting truths in a relevant way. He thinks and speaks in such a way that he answers a lot of the questions that I would have throughout his sermon because he has already thought about that topic from his law background. His sense of humor is subtle and sarcastic…just the way I like it. Any pastor who can talk about the things he talks about and sprinkle in Star Wars and Ghostbusters is one that I love dearly.

  356. 356
    David says:

Matt Chandler and Mark Driscoll are on the starting line up of our Theological Dream team. The starting line up is M.Drizzle, Mattlock, Johnny Pipes, Hammer (Paul Washer), and John Calvin (randomly). The ministry of these men are affecting more people than they know…even in Houston…the “Bible Belt”…lol

  357. 357
    Andrea says:

…and I agree with the first person that commented. I love that Mark and Matt aren’t afraid to preach the truth even if it might not be popular.

  358. 358
    Byron says:

I love how Matt and Mark speak the truth! They are not afraid to say the hard things as Pastor Mark has said “Hard words produce soft people.” I appreciate that about both of these men!

  359. 359
    David says:

…oops I forgot about J.Mac (John Macarthur). He is our center on the Theological Dream team.

  360. 360
    Brandon says:

Excellent! I appreciate the substance and depth that men like Matt Chandler bring to the study of Scripture.

  361. 361
    Deirdre says:

    pick me!

  362. 362
    Javi says:

Matt brings the word home in a relevant, realistic, responsible way!

  363. 363
    Will says:

Matt’s sermon this week was awesome. It looked at prayer and provided a great exposition from a reformed perspective.

  364. 364
    Kosit says:

I’ve heard Mark Driscoll and listen to his podcast, but haven’t had a chance to hear Matt Chandler. I’ll definitely give him a listen now.

  365. 365
    Erica says:

Even before the site name change to “The Hub”, I loved reading everything you guys sent us :) . Hubby and I signed up for your newsletter during our “Premarital” counseling days as a way to do devotionals together (long distance). That was an amazing time. Thank so much!

  366. 366
    Tommy says:

I’ve never heard Matt speak. Anyone know the topic?

  367. 367
  368. 368
    Stacy says:

We went to see him a couple of years ago for a SOS study. Til then I had never heard of him and thought I might be disappointed since it wasn’t Tommy speaking. We did not leave there disappointed! Matt was a delightful speaker.

  369. 369
    Brent says:

I’m from the northeast and am going to college in OKC, needless to say it was something of a culture shock. Matt Chandlers podcast has been really great in combating a growing cynicism about the bible belt. Thanks.

  370. 370
    Rachel says:

This sounds awesome! What a way to promote a new series!

  371. 371
    Zachariah says:

I’m with Josh. These guys are so legit. I’ve learned loads from Chandler and Driscoll and Piper and etc.

  372. 372
    Zachariah says:

I’ve never seen a contest that allows you to enter numerous times like this.

I think my favorite Chandler message is “9 Pastoral Prayers” I love the heart he expresses!

  373. 373
    Danny Burch says:

Can’t see my comments… hopefully they’ll be posted

  374. 374
    Zachariah says:

Also I really dig the more intellectual guys like Tim Keller and D.A. Carson. Though I appreciate the common-man modded intellectualism of Driscoll and Chandler.

  375. 375
    Namratha says:

I listened to Tommy Nelson’s Song of Solomon’s before I became a believer and it really changed my view on what dating, courtship, and marriage is supposed to look like. I continue to listen to the series at least once a year as a reminder.

My husband introduced me to Matt Chandler’s preaching and I would move back to Dallas to attend his church! He is gifted at speaking truth and his transparency encourages this desire to have an intimate relationship with the Lord and a real relationship with our community. I always look forward to his sermons every week. I have definitely shared a lot that I have learned through his sermon podcasts with friends.

I can’t wait to his Philippians series!

Driscoll has inspired me to speak the truth no matter what. These guys are great men of the word. I admire them greatly, just as i do each of the men above. I’ve dreamed of going to Catalyst but money has always been an issue for our church so it has been impossible. I hope to some day!

As a former athlete, I love hearing the original context of Phil. 4:13. Instead of “using” this verse to help me win a race, I can have confidence in being content in Christ whether I win or lose!

“Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, and not frightened in anything by your opponents.”

I haven’t heard Matt’s teaching yet, but I love Tommy Nelson’s. He’s my favorite Bible teacher, ever. His teaching is always insightful, challenging, and presented in an interesting way. He has a way of bringing something new even to passages I already know very well. He definitely has God’s anointing upon him.

    Asia Fowler says:

I have the priveledge of hearing the word preached faithfully each week at the Village Church. What I like most about Chandler is his realization that he can do nothing outside of Christ’s grace.

  415. 415

ok. I’ll leave some relevant. Feel like a cheater just leaving nonsense. Moved to Dallas to attend the Village 2 years ago from Longview. Had been listening to podcasts and felt like there was something there for me. I grew up in church, which I know is the common back story for most Village attendees, but listening to Pastor Matt was the first time I felt like I was being education by someone who was completely confident of what they were saying. That it wasn’t just a passing “idea” or an “opinion”. It was taught as if it was truth, which is great because it is Truth. It was the first time I believed that the person teaching had wrestled and prayed and taught with authority that was given to him.

  416. 416
    Josie says:

I’m so thankful for the SOS ministry. Tommy Nelson’s series helped me over a major breakup. I kept listening to the CDs over and over again and the healing power of the Word of God mended my broken heart. I have sinced passed it on to friends who were going through divorce or separation and, lo and behold, they too experienced great comfort and healing. I thank God for Tommy Nelson and the series that has so greatly impacted my life and the lives of countless others. Thank you for praying and paying the price for the revelation God has given and continues to give you and those associated with you. My heartfelt thanks!

  417. 417

    James Duffield says:

As a Bible College student near Bournemouth, England, I would just like to spread my appreciation or Matt Chandler. Although this is an age where we as Christian’s easily elivate the ‘famous’ Christian speakers to celebrity, which I’m not trying to encourage, Matt is someone whom I look to within his context as a great role model as an aspiring teacher of God’s word. I love the way the Spirit is so abundant within him, so much so it’s an overflow. Although I don’t want to be an imitator, as Christ has created us all uniquely I do love watching him and picking up some ‘tricks of the trade’, it would be a true priviledge and honour to be able to see you in person as a preacher. Thanks Matt for being someone that us Bible College students can truely look up to as an aspiration in preaching, church leading and family living. God is using you in big ways.

You guys have made a difference for Christ in our family. My husband and I bought the “Song of Solomon” on Cd at one of your events years ago. I could not attend the event due to not having a sitter but figured listening to the sessions on cd was better than nothing. It changed our lives and our marriage! The benefits of your teachings will be passed from generation to generation in our family. And seeing as how we have 6 children so far, that is alot. It will be part of our wedding gift to each of our children and their spouse. Thank you for being a part of our past and our future. I would love to learn more of these teachings!

Praise God for all the new technology. With it, we have been able to tell millions of people about our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. Through email, Facebook, etc., we have been able to reach out to those who may never have had the chance to hear about Him. Those who’s government(s) wouldn’t allow us to come to their country(s) and share the Word of God or even talk about God are able to use their computers, cell phones, i-pods, not only to read and hear about God, but actually have discussions, ask questions, learn about Him, even accept Him as their Lord & Savior, without their government ever knowing!!! God works in mysterious ways!!!

  454. 454
    Jennifer says:

Tommy Nelson is an amazing speaker!

  455. 455
    Jenny Michael says:

And I’m flip’ing stoked to have the privilage in commenting about a few amazing men the Lord has really used to further my walk with God! As a fresh new walking christian(2002ish) I read one of Tommy Nelsons book, “song of solomon” because well in a non-christian dating realm, dating looked MUCH much different than how dating looked in the light of how God wants dating, pursuit, marriage to happen I needed new eyes…so I read that book to gain wisdom in this area of my life. And it was with that book, I gained a whole new, enlightened to TRUTH outlook on “dating” but really helped me in viewing things a bit differently!
And years later 2005 I moved to TX and found my home at The Village Church, where Matt Chandler has been a huge blessing in my growth and walk with the Lord! Matt is a very gifted speaker, one whom seems to speak to able to speak and get to the hearts of the young and the “old”… I love serving and being a member of the Village church! I love going to church and walking away, sometime blown away, or could be at time a slap in the face, by Matts message; either being challanged, convicted, makes you think and think deeper, challenges to look deepert into your heart, the challenges and encouragement he gives to us to fight hard and harder to become more like Christ, to remind us to glorify Christ in all He’s done…You can see his heart in hiw much he loves the Lord and how much he wants us to Love Him too, you can see him (matt) yearn for us(the body, believers and non) to walk deeply with the Lord, to Love wholeheatedly and praise our God…you can see how much he loves when he speaks on sat and sun. And to me you can see how much he also cares for each one of us sitting in the sancituary knowing our name or not, member or attender, you can see his compassion for his each one that is there! And along with his compassion comes, what I like is TRUTH! Good ‘ole hard truth! Which I’m sure is hard to preach but he does and he does it well. Since I’ve moved to Tx and get to have Matt as my Pastor it has been the best/worst growth I’ve ever had! Meaning sometimes growing is hard, difficult, challenging and at the same time oh soo good! I have been told by friends how excited they are for me, in that they can see an extreme amount of growth and I have to thank you Matt and village in that as well as others!
Thank you for all you do!
    Blessings
    Jen

I became familiar with Tommy Nelson through the SOS Conference. This past year our Sunday school class used his Ecclesiastes series and it was a tremendous encouragement to me as I was going through a time of questioning God’s sovereignty. 458. 458
    Eric K says:

I have been following the work of Mark Driscoll and Matt Chandler for several years now. They are both gifted speakers, preachers, and teachers. I also very much appreciate how freely they share resources through their podcasts and websites such as the Mars Hill Church (http://www.marshillchurch.org/) and Village Church (http://www.thevillagechurch.net/), the Resurgence (http://theresurgence.org/), Acts29 Network (http://acts29network.org/), etc.

They are also doing a lot with social media that includes Facebook and Twitter and YouTube which helps distribute the Gospel.

I think what is most remarkable about these Pastors is that they preach the truth without watering things down or making their sermons “politically correct”… NO, they speak the truth in the face of culture – and yet their churches are growing. Which demonstrates that people are hungry and looking for the truth.

I admit I haven’t heard much about the Catalyst Conference, but I do like the mission of equipping the next generation of leaders to reach an ever increasing secular culture.

  459. 459

May a multitude be edified and come to a full understanding of what the Lord is conveying through Paul in Phillipians. And Lord, as the men of God in the past would cast lots to hear from You, please let the lot fall on the right person You choose to bless this camera with. Resources like these, unfortunately, are rare. Keep making these great videos!

To me, he is the modern day Luther or Calvin.

Having listened and learned at the feet of Matt Chandler since April, 2004, not only have I learned of God’s love, grace and mercy for me as a follower of His, but I have learned it from a person who not only preaches humility but lives and breathes it from the pulpit each weekend! Not only that, Matt challenges his staff and congregation to the same standard he follows. I can only imagine how impacting Philippians is!

    James Tavernier says:

Matt Chandler is one of my favorite podcast pastors.

My family and I were on a spiritual journey searching for a church in the Southeast Houston area. We attended several churches ranging from the extremely legalistic to the extremely liberal. During said search, I searched online for solid teaching. I found Mark Driscoll, Matt Chandler, Darrin Patrick etc. I was amazed at the aggressive Bible teaching that I heard taught from their pulpits (and others). It was like a fount of fresh living water that I was desperate for.

    Thank you.

    Fellow follower,

Tommy Nelson’s Ecclesiastes study was fantastic. We use the DVD based study and everyone enjoyed it. We will be re-running the study at our church very soon for those that missed it.

    M.G.F. says:

We are planning a S.O.S. study for adults Fall of 2010 or Spring of 2011.

  625. 625
    John C. Reilly says:

In 1999 I heard Tommy Nelson speak at a Campus Crusade for Christ conference. It was that night I gave my life to Jesus Christ. Since then I have spent my life living and learning under capable teachers. I had placed Tommy upon such a pedestal in the realm of Bible teaching. Only a few men have, in my opinion, made it to his level. Over the past few years Mark Driscoll has become one of those men for me to take comfort and rest in his teaching, and to sit at his feet and learn deeply from the Word of God. Today I am a pastor myself, but I would have not gotten where I am today without men like Tommy and Mark. I have had little contact with Matt and his teaching, but if he is capable to be paired up with these two men, I highly anticipate his Philippian study!

    Blessings

Eddie, any chance that Tommy Nelson’s Revelation study might be updated and available for purchase?

  629. 629

God is amazing and continues to press into me daily and remove the things that i hold ultimate. It’s tough but I desire to live out the tattoo on my arm: John 3:30

He must increase and I must decrease.

More of Him and less of me. It’s important that the verse mentions Jesus increasing first because I cannot decrease unless I put more of Christ in my life. He comes first and is ultimate and when I worship him daily and crow closer to him I fill up with His glory and my pride and earthly desires lessen.

Chandler has helped to show me this as well through his teaching from scripture.

  630. 630
    Liz says:

  634. 634
    M.G.F. says:

After sinking into a depressive state and dealing with physical difficulties due to depression, Tommy Nelson agreed that it is important for people to seek out not only God but help from Christian doctors as well.

You asked about learning God’s word. Our church has been using the “Bible in 90 Days” series since it first began. This is an excellent way for every person to make themselves available for God’s spirit to speak to them.

  641. 641
    M.G.F. says:

The Bible in 90 Days helps introduce the Bible to beginners and places them in a supportive group setting.

  642. 642
    Brandon G. says:

This is so great!! A great Biblical based study that pushes us to the Father, and not our ideas of spirituality

  643. 643
    M.G.F. says:

Also, The Bible in 90 Days is an outstanding way for any person to keep God’s word close to your heart each and every day.

  644. 644

  653. 653
    Matt says:

Can’t wait to get this Philippians study

  654. 654
    Matt says:

    This is a great giveaway!

I am currently chewing hard on the first 11 verses of Phillipians 2. Learning how we can go about living among each other and reaching the world around us by looking at the incarnation of Jesus and how he reached out to us.

P.S. Matt Chandler is high on my least of favorite preachers and I’d be pumped to win this prize!

  655. 655
    Sandy says:

I love the book of Philippians

Glad to see this is working today
I couldn’t get it to take a response yesterday

  656. 656

Really looking forward to this study. I’ve found Tommy Nelsons teaching on the book powerful. I’ve followed Chandler for a while now and anticipate great things!

  657. 657
    Moses Vela says:

The way I’ve learned has been through their no holds barred approach, not like other panty waisted heretical preachers that are trying to keep you in “church” by making you feel good.
Matt, Mark, and Tommy don’t really care about making anyone feel good they care about doing whatever it takes to turn us to Jesus and keep us facing Him to make us a part of the Church.

    Moses

  658. 658
    M.G.F. says:

Excellent give away. It makes me want to look into the other studies being offered.

  659. 659

  668. 668
    Tom J says:

Good morning hopeful flip and Philippians winners. Could this be the lucky entry?

  669. 669
    Tom J says:

    Or perhaps this one?

  670. 670
    Tom J says:

I have to admit that the only reason I know of the Hub is through Matt Chandler. I’ve actually never listened to a sermon given by Driscoll before. My only knowledge of Mark is through Acts 29.

  671. 671
    M.G.F. says:

I’m very interested in the Romans series but the cost is extremely high…not saying it’s not worth the cost, only it would take quite a bit to purchase both sets.

    As would we all.

  678. 678
    Scott says:

I do think it is necessary to say that Mark Driscoll and Matt Chandler, etc, would not be who they are without the influence of guys like John Piper, Tim Keller, and Don Carson. They in turn wouldn’t be who they are without the influence of guys like Calvin, Spurgeon, and the Puritans.

  679. 679
    Lulu says:

This would be an amazing tool for the girls I lead every week!

  680. 680

Just got a tweet from the web admin saying thy want 3000 comments by the close of this event. We need to get to work people. Pick me!

  683. 683
    Tom J says:

It would be nice if the Catalyst Conf and others would have live web feeds. Who has the money to travel to all of these events?

  684. 684
    Tom J says:

When this thing is over there should be around 3000 comments. What are the chances that one of is chosen? I smell a statistics project?

  685. 685
    Jason Miller says:

Thanks for connecting with me again. Blessings!

  686. 686

  687. 687
    Tom J says:

Just paid 90$ for running a redlight…I could use something for FREE!

  688. 688
    Chris says:

If we have around 700 now and we should close around 3000… then I just need to post approximately 2000 more times (give or take a few) to get a good chance.

  689. 689
    Tami says:

I know that God is going to pick who He wants to have these free DVD sets…but I really hope it’s me!!

  706. 706
    Grant Zobrist says:

What a beautiful sunny day! God is soooooo good!!!

  707. 707
    Andra says:

The most important thing about all three of these men featured here at the Hub is that they are passionate about the Gospel message. That is what is missing from most churches and the world can see it in the brokeness of the Church. I am grateful for God’s leading in Tom, Matt and Mark. Great source for great materials.

  708. 708
    Tom J says:

“Oh the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God” If you haven’t heard ‘The Cross’ series done by Chandler I recommend you go to their website and download it.

  709. 709
    Tom J says:

    Have I won it yet?

  710. 710
    Tom J says:

What a great strategy to 1. get your website out there and 2. to get your product out there. Isn’t the Flip really third to both of those things?

  711. 711
    Tom J says:

I see a lot of talk on here about Tommy Nelson and his videos, I’m not too familiar with him.

  712. 712

    Samuel and Gail Thompson says:

We attended the Song of Solomon conference a couple of years ago and Liberty University. WE have been blessed by what we learned, took a great deal of notes and as the Marriage Ministry Coordinators of our church have shared a lot of the principals. We purchased the CD set and have shared it with a young couple familiar with Song of Solomon. They recently shared information about romance and sexuality at our Fall Marriage Conference: “Becoming One: Spirit, Soul and Body”! We look forward to what we know will be an excellent teaching series. Thank God for you and what your ministry is doing for the body of Christ.

    Samuel and Gail Thompson

  716. 716
    L Patrick says:

I have been listening to Matt Chandler’s sermons on podcast for quite a while now. Something I enjoy about his sermons is that he breaks down the common ideology of those who have grown up in church (specifically baptist churches) their whole lives. Very convicting and eye-opening. Good for our generation.

  717. 717
    Chris says:

I’d love to be at an SOS conference some day.. Hopefully this will get me started with the new Hub organization if I win :-)

  718. 718
    Tom J says:

we finally made it over 700 comments. It seems that they’ve slowed down a bit today though. It’s starting to make me curious if we’ll make it to 3000.Hmm…

  719. 719
    Tom J says:

Geez, I just realized that only 6 comments have been posted in between my last 2 comments and it’s been 2 hours. Yesterday that number would have been around 100-125 comments. Are my odds increasing? Only God knows the answer

  720. 720

well. i’m now down to a 5 in 715 chance of winning. haha

  721. 721

1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus,
To all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons:

  722. 722

2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

  723. 723

3 I thank my God every time I remember you.

  724. 724

4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy

  725. 725

5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,

  726. 726

6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

  727. 727

7 It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me.

  728. 728

8 God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

  729. 729

9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight

  730. 730

10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ

  731. 731

11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

  732. 732

12 Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel.

  733. 733

13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.

  734. 734

14 Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.

  735. 735
    Anna Hess says:

Thank God for inspiring minds like these!!

  736. 736

15 it is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill.

  737. 737

16 The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.

  738. 738

17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains

  739. 739

18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

  740. 740

19 Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.

  741. 741

20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

  742. 742

21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

  743. 743

22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know!

  744. 744

    23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far;

  745. 745

24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.

  746. 746

25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith,

  747. 747

26 so that through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me.

  748. 748

27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel

  749. 749

28 without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God.

  750. 750

29 For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him,

  751. 751

30 since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.

  752. 752

i cannot get enough of this chapter

  753. 753
    Matt Sanders says:

I am upset that I will not be at the Catalyst Conference this week. I have been in the past and it is probably the greatest gathering of Christian leaders. This year’s line up is unbelievable and so diverse. I look forward to being able to purchase the different sessions to listen to. Leaders from all over in so many different areas providing very useful, applicable information. Awesome. Not to mention it is great to break records and have fun along the way!

  754. 754
    Kenny Hamm says:

I honestly believe when a community sees the Church as the bride of Christ and not the institutional Church we will experience a little bit of Heaven.

    Revelation 21:22-24

  755. 755
    Kosit says:

Had a chance to listen to one of Matt’s sermons and it was great! Really challenging and made me think about how I often cling to my own goodness and forget that my identity is as a forgiven sinner.

  756. 756
    Brandy says:

Seriously… If I had the money, I would have bought this … yesterday.

  757. 757
    Erica says:

I’ve really appreciated the teachings of Craig Groeschel and Mark Driscoll during my own times of confusion.

  758. 758
    Anita Treasure says:

Wow! Rejoice again I say rejoice. A really positive study to do!!.

  759. 759
    Jim says:

God has used Matt Chandler as His voice in my life to stretch and challenge me for several years now to grow closer to Him and take the Cross more seriously.

  760. 760
    Heidi says:

This sounds really exciting! I love Phillipians, and many of the beginning
new testament writers. I’ll have to do some more reading about this later.
I noticed someone said that it includes Tommy Nelson. I just love his
    passion!

  761. 761

Driscoll’s teaching on church discipline really shed some excellent light on the issue. It has helped our church walk through a couple issues.

  762. 762
    Chris says:

Show me the study! Can’t wait to see it for myself, I watched the live online interview a while back and am excited to get my hands on it

  763. 763
    Mark says:

Driscoll’s SoS series really helped my wife and I understand marriage and each other better – I’d say it’s a great message for couples to hear.

  764. 764
    Laurie says:

Philippians is my “go to” book!

  765. 765
    Jason says:

Philippians is the book we have picked to go through with our youth group. Would LOVE this package!!

  766. 766
    Matt Sanders says:

Another great teacher is Mark Driscoll. I love him for many of the same reasons I enjoy Matt Chandler. The dude knows his stuff but presents it in a compelling way that many can understand. While his talks are for the most part serious…and loud…he does sprinkle in the every once in a while joke to lighten the mood. I love what he has done at Mars Hill and for the city of Seattle. I love the fact that there is not ounce of fear to teach the Bible for what it says. He does not shy away from the hard stuff even though it may cost him members, listeners, and followers. It’s not about him anyway.

  767. 767
    Blake says:

I first heard Tommy Nelson’s Song of Soloman series in college. That was over 12 years ago. I still remember the lessons he spoke of and the passion he has for God. I would love to hear the series again…and again, and again!

  768. 768
    Chris says:

you got to be in it to win it….I’m in

  770. 770
    Eric says:

How can you not like Chandler and Driscoll? They’re awesome!

  771. 771
    Tom J says:

reading ‘Knowing God’ this morning on the way to school. What a fantastic piece of literature. Keeps reminding me not to make God in our image of what we think he “should” be, but to worship him as he has revealed himself in the Word.

  772. 772
    Tom J says:

Have I won this event yet?

  773. 773
    Tom J says:

I would have bought both the Roman and Philippians series if A. I had the money and B. They weren’t so expensive. But that’s why I’m going to win it! right?

  774. 774
    Tom J says:

I wish I could pick Matt Chandlers brain when he’s teaching this week at Catalyst w/ non other than Rob Bell…hmmm. On the other hand he gets to meet Tony Dungy and that’s pretty cool

  775. 775
    Tom J says:

I like how you can now “rent” the series on the Hub. That is a fantastic alternative for those of us who cannot afford to buy them outright. Thanks Hub

  776. 776
    Tom J says:

Epiphany- The Hub should take a lesson from Desiring God and offer their material for free! Ta-da!!

  777. 777
    Tom J says:

I’ve got to keep up w/ Michael Newsom. He’s been doing some mad commenting. Perhaps I too should quote scripture, it would increase the odds…wait…God’s sovereign never mind. He gives to whom he wills.

  778. 778
    Grant Zobrist says:

  784. 784
    Tom J says:

I want this contest to be over. They should of made it only 2 days. 4 days is going to be way too long.

  786. 786
    Tom J says:

These college courses I’m taking sure are boring. I know how they can be spruced up….Philippians DVD!!

  787. 787
    Tom J says:

Favorite Bible verse: “oh the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God. How unsearchable are his judgments how inscrutable his ways. For who has known the mind of the lord or who has given him counsel? Or who has ever given a gift to him that he should be repaid? For from him and through him and to him are all things. To God be the glory forever. Amen” Romans 11:33-35

  788. 788
    Tom J says:

seriously…zoning and land-use management could really be spruced up by Matt Chandler and the Philippians DVD.

  789. 789
    Tom J says:

Has anyone listened to Tommy Nelson-The story of Jabez? I see it every time I post a comment and it’s making me curious.

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.”

  794. 794
    Tom J says:

“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.”

  795. 795
    Tom J says:

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.”

  796. 796
    Tom J says:

“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”

    Jamie says:

I love what The Hub is doing. I was a fan of SOS when Tommy Nelson first started preaching it. Now, when our home group is searching for material for our next study, we look to The Hub. Each of the studies we’ve done has allowed us to dig into the word and grow. And it helps that the speakers are dynamic!

    Gabriel Cavalier says:

I love The Hub and Doug Hudson. They have been so gracious to me. So much that words are often at a loss. I use Matt Chandler’s Philippians study with some youth in the Dallas area and they are growing closer to Christ as a result. That’s all you can really ask for.

    M.G.F. says:

It’s always exciting when God’s truth finds you. Sometimes it can be in ways that don’t expect.

    Tom J says:

Looking for a church home can be a real drag. I’m grateful that we(my wife and I) can have the Village church to listen to while we’re searching. Podcasting is incredible, but it can never and should never replace the fellowship of the bride of Christ.

  868. 868

We are part of a bible study group of early 50’s adults working for the US government in Okinawa, Japan. We have been so blessed to listen to Tommy Nelson’s Song of Solomon, Ecclesiastes, Daniel and now Romans. Thank you Tommy for how you have led us through the Lord’s word! Sincerely,
Andrea, Larry, Meg, Sam, Sook, and John

  872. 872
    Meg Ishikawa says:

I represent an “Over 50″ group Bible Study. We are 3 couples here on Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan. Two of our couples have known the Lord for many years, but the other couple has come to know the Lord in the past 4 years. This couple, Andrea and Larry, remind us of “how great a salvation and Savior”, we have. Since we started 4 years ago, we have done (the original) “Song of Solomon,” “Daniel,” “Proverbs,” and “Ecclesiastes.” Right now we are laughing and being fed wonderful doctrinal truths, through “Romans.” We all love Tommy Nelson and when we heard of his heart attack we began thanking the Lord for OUR SAKES that he has been given more time on this earth. We hunger after our precious Lord, Jesus, and His Word and thanks to Tommy, we love His Word more and have learned how to walk in it. The first time my husband, Sam, and I did “Song of Solomon,” we looked at one another and said, “Tommy Nelson sounds like he has been trained in ‘the Campus Crusade school of great speakers – in the steps of JOSH and Dennis Rainey’.'” When we found out we were correct we were even more excited as Sam and I used to be CCC staff here in Japan (now Sam is a Department of Defense Teacher) and met through CCC as Tommy and Teresa did! CCC made Biblical truths understandable and real to us! Tommy does the same. What a blessing that he is still breaking God’s Word by the power of His Spirit, here on this earth so that the Holy Spirit can take that Word and change us from the inside out! Thank you so, so much!

  873. 873
    Matt says:

  883. 883
    Tom J says:

In all seriousness the pastors that have most influenced me are Chandler and Piper. I would love to win this DVD series and start a group around it. I’m always looking for new people to introduce to Chandler.

  886. 886

  887. 887

  894. 894
    Mark says:

    welcome, weekend.

  895. 895
    Tom J says:

Wow only 6 more hours of this contest. You know what I love about Chandlers preaching? Is that when he does series on Men/Women/Marriage it isn’t a Saturday seminar just for married couples. But preached Sunday to the whole flock, for those married or unmarried, college, singles, high school. It’s about foreshadowing and teaching the youngsters how to act when your older. Very encouraging

  896. 896
    Blair Jenkins says:

Would love a free study on Philippians!

  897. 897
    Tom J says:

Wishing everyone here to best of “luck” in winning this incredible teaching series. I hope and pray that whomever wins will use to to bless those around them and spread the Gospel to a lost world and shine the Light into the darkness.

  898. 898

Fellowship w/ believers is something to cherish. Separation from the flock can only lead to loneliness

  899. 899
    Tom J says:

I’m debating posting random messages to fill the space? Tick-Tock..what to do ?

  900. 900
    Tom J says:

Every time I open the word of God it’s new. Just consider that. A book you can read over and over and over and over and over and it never tires and yet we continue to collect TV stations and movies that we’ll never watch. All the while an inexhaustible resource is on our shelves.

  901. 901

    Tom J says:

It’s been fun living on this forum the past 4 days. We should do this thing again. Pick me!

  903. 903
    Tom J says:

I’ve always been inspired by the teaching of Matt Chandler. Whenever someone teaches me something that doesn’t sound familiar or bigger than I had imagined it causes me to search it out. Which eventually leads to upwards growth. Great teachers always expand your knowledge by drawing you up which fosters worship of a God who is inscrutable and unsearchable.

  904. 904
    Tom J says:

Well thank you Eddie for the e-mail. So folks let us see. Oh…so what about that Nasa moon missile launch? Are you serious? Tax dollars being spent there to find water so we could sustain life there? I echo C.S. Lewis who said, “Let’s pray that the human race never escapes from Earth to spread its iniquity elsewhere. “

  905. 905
    Tom J says:

Day 1: Lots of action, over 700 posts.
Day 2: Some action but large drop off in # of posts
Day 3: Still action but numbers are dropping like flies around a bug zapper
    Day 4: Crickets!!!
Where are you people? I’m down to asking rhetorical questions to myself just to feel some community.

  906. 906
    Tom J says:

Okay, I really must leave for a moment. I have a sermon I have to finish, but I will be back before shutting down.

  907. 907
    Devon says:

We are truly blessed to have such amazing teachers such as Mark Driscoll and Matt Chandler. I’ve been challenged and have grown as result of there gifted teaching. I’m hungry for God’s word, wisdom and understanding, and these great men of God truly help me see the truth in a new light. This new Bible Study – Philippians, looks GREAT. I just watched the promo and am looking forward to seeing more. BTW – Great site . . . I just stumbled upon this (The Hub) through a Tweet. I’m glad God has directed my steps tonight to find you online. Keep up the great work!

  908. 908

Spiritually, I grew up under Tommy Nelson’s teaching. If Matt Chandler’s style of teaching Philippians is anything similar to Tommy’s, I think I’d really love it. I’ve heard great things about Matt’s teaching!!

  909. 909
    Tom J says:

It’s late and my brain is beginning to fry. Working on sermons about an inexhaustible being can be humbling and tiring. Glory to God in the highest.

  910. 910
    Tom J says:

only 2ish more hours (2ish is not an actual unit of time).

  911. 911
    Tom J says:

Should I win something for posting the most times? :)

  912. 912
